My absolute favorite season of all is Fall. So that’s what inspired my newest theme.

It’s a 3 Column, widget-ready fixed width theme in rustic autumn colors featuring an author box, author info page, gravatars and highlighted author comments in the comments section along with Custom Archives, Custom Intro Box, Sitemap and full width No Sidebars page templates. I loved the Autumn Almanac theme! When I saw it I thought it would be cool to transcend that theme into all four seasons. I have a background wallpaper that made me think of it.

In essence you would be keeping and using the same theme only aligned with the appropriate season that you would be in. Keep me posted if you end up making others for Spring, Summer and Winter, okay?

  2. Mina says:

    Hey Jim,

Thanks so much, I’m glad you like it. It’s funny that you mentioned the other seasons, I actually had that thought. It’s a definite possibility. Will let you know.

  3. Thanks for a great theme Mina. I am implementing it on another website and need to know what size image to use for the header.

    Kind regards!

  4. Mina says:

Hi, thanks to you for using it. ??

To answer your question, the image size for the header is 1000px x 250px. And if you have any other questions just let me know.

  5. Mina, I was able to figure out the answer to the image size question. And now I have another one. Is it possible to change the size of the header and make it smaller?

If so, how would I make that change?

  6. Mina says:

Absolutely possible. Go into Design>>Theme Editor >>Stylesheet then find this line:

    #header { float: left; width: 1000px; height: 250px; background: #e0dcc5 url(images/header.jpg) no-repeat; padding: 0; margin: 0 auto 0 auto; }

Just change the width and/or height sizes to whatever you want. If you change the width size you might also have to adjust margin and padding settings accordingly.

Let me know if you run into any problems. Right now I’m off to work so I won’t be able to get back here until later today but I will check in here when I get home.

    Good Luck!

  7. Thanks Mina! I’ll keep you posted.

  8. vh says:

    Hi Mina!

Back again…it was time for me to make a make over for vhudgens and I went back to your site and was glad that you made a new theme. I used this theme for my blog. I know..I can never make up my mind, which I’m soo greatful for you and the rest of web/wp designers out there who gives us free codings. Anyways, my question was…in my side bar, I added the categories widget and for some reason, the white box is all the way to the left rather than stationing itself in the center. I know I edited some the encoding so that the header doesn’t have that link anymore and I changed the background color, but I didn’t think it would affect that, right? I’m looking around to see if find the correct coding but css is just not my forte. I can manipulate and read, and understand what it does, but writing it from scratch is just… hard for me right now. I’m still learning as I go. Anyways, any help is much appreciated. (that header will probably change soon, it looks too much like my friends header. do you know what I should do, so that the whole header links back to ‘home’ or the main page?)

  9. Mina says:

    Welcome back!

Okay first things first…the category dropdown box is to the left by default, and try as I might I couldn’t find an fix for that anywhere. Many other themes I’ve looked at (including the WordPress Default theme) are all that way. I’ve tried different things and can’t alter it. I’m sorry. ??

To make the entire header image clickable go into your header.php file and find this line:

    div id=”header”

    and replace it with this:

    div id=”header” onclick=”location.href=’http://siteaddress/’;” style=”cursor: pointer;”

Make sure you change “siteaddress” with your blog’s url and that will take you back to your main page when clicked.

  10. vh says:

aww, thanks for the quick response!! Im definitely adding that in today.

  11. HI Mina,

As promised, I am letting you know that I decided to keep your header image:

However, I’d be interested to know if you will add seasonal headers.

  12. Jeffrey says:

    Hi Mina,

I’ve setup my church’s Blog and am now using your Theme (with some changes to the header photo and background color).

Anyhow, this may be a WordPress question, but I thought I’d start here.
When I’m writing a Post, I can do it “visually” or in “html”. If I “Write” it in html, do I need to put all of the HTML code in as I’m writing it ( tags, etc)?
The reason I ask is if I just write some text and maybe add a photo and Post it, there is no formatting in the resulting Post, everything is all lumped together in one large paragraph.

Do I need to go to the Template files to add formatting, etc?

  13. Mina says:

Sorry I didn’t respond sooner, I just got home from work. Before I get to your issue I just want to say that I absolutely love your header. It’s awesome!

To start I would strongly advise against using the visual editor altogether. You’re best bet would be to go into your user profile and uncheck the box at the top of the page. Even some of the folks at WordPress will tell you not to use it! ??

Now with that said you shouldn’t have to do any formatting aside from occasionally using some of the buttons in the editor window (ie: b, i, u, blockquote, etc). So basically no…you shouldn’t have to put in any html tags as far as I’m aware.

I did some testing on my setup both with and without the visual editor and didn’t run into any problems. And in looking through your site I didn’t see anything except the posts on the front page. The photos have way overrun the post. It looks like you might be using the Lightbox plugin for that and that’s a bit out of my league. If that’s what you were referring to maybe try disabling the plugin temporarily to see if that changes anything.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding your troubles. Do you have a post that’s unformatted I could see?

  14. Jeremy says:

I was wondering if you could help me out. I can figure out how to change the background image(that is dark red) and the inside background image(very light brown leaves). Where is the place at that can change that?

  15. Mina says:

For the background image find this line:

    body { margin: 0; font-size: 76.5%; text-align: center; vertical-align: top; background: #993300 url(images/body-bg.gif) repeat; color: #000; }

And for the leaves image the line to look for is:

    #main_content { background: #e0dcc5 url(images/page-bg.jpg) repeat; float: left; margin: 0 auto 0 auto; padding: 0; width: 1000px; border: #cc9933 1px solid; }

The background code is what you need.

  16. Jeremy says:

Thx, i got one more problem ^_^ lol, umm when i post on my site, with this layout. There is a big margin at the bottom. with the sentances spaced alot. check it out. http://animekami.oxyrack.com/ Below the video.

  17. Jeremy says:

Oh and is it possible to make it so the side bars with the banner image toches the left and right side of the screen instead of there being a gap. Becuase there is the orangeish frame around stuff.

  18. Mina says:

As for the first issue, the only thing that I can see that could be causing that is it seems you’ve added tags in the body of the post. Using the tag there could be adding the spaces. I’ve tried to duplicate that in my setup and couldn’t. Try removing that tags entry from the post and see if that helps.

And to remove the orange border go into style.css and find this entry:

    #main_content { background: #e0dcc5 url(images/page-bg.jpg) repeat; float: left; margin: 0 auto 0 auto; padding: 0; width: 1000px; border: #cc9933 1px solid; }

Delete this: border: #cc9933 1px solid; and save.

  19. I love your theme, but could you please tell me how to get rid of this: “Project-Id-Version: WordPress Norsk Bokm?l POT-Creation-Date: 2004-12-21 02:45:29.728614 PO-Revision-Date: 2007-10-30 15:56+0100 Last-Translator: Petter (http://neppe.no) Language-Team: Kristin (http://norskwp.org) Language-Team: Petter (http://neppe.no) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Plural-Forms: nplurals=2; plural=n!=1; “?

  20. Mina says:

That’s an issue with translations and I gotta say it’s got me stumped. I’ve talked to other people who use different languages with my themes and most don’t seem to have any problems. You are actually the second person that’s had this come up.

Can you tell me how you got yours translated?

  21. Monica says:

I’ll try to update my language-file first, then I’ll come back to you! ??

  22. Monica says:

Updating the language-file did not help at all. But converting from the norwegian version to the english version was (so far) the only solution …

  23. Mina says:

Do you think you could send my your norweigan language files so I could try for a fix for this? If so email them to admin@ casino mien phi www.slutfishrecords.com.

The other person I mentioned said he found a fix but wasn’t specific about what that fix was. If I have the language files hopefully I can figure it out.

  24. Monica says:

I’ve mailed to you now. Thank you for looking into this!

  25. Mina says:

I got the language file, now let’s see what I can do with it! I’ll let you know what I come up with as soon as I can. ??

  26. Mina says:

Okay Monica I think I got it figured out!

Since there seems to be some problem here at this site with embedding code I’m going to email you a new copy of the index.php file with the problem code edited out.

Please let me know if you still have problems.

  27. Monica says:

Wow, it’s working! Thanks a lot! Great job!

  28. Mina says:

    Good deal! ??

  29. WAD says:

    Hi There!

We totally love your temple at our site. Now that we are officially launching tomorrow, I’d really love to put in Google analytics code.

WIll you please tell me EXACTLY where I place it?

It should go just before but I can’t find that.

Also, please let me know if you will have different headers for different seasons!

  30. Mina says:

Thanks so much, that’s great to hear!

Okay I’m not real up on this yet but from what I can tell it needs to go into footer.php just above the tag. Please let me know if you need more help with this.

As for the headers, that’s a cool idea! I’ll see what I can do about that this weekend.

  31. WAD says:

As always, thanks for your help!

  32. Mina says:

I wrote my reply this morning just before leaving for work and only now noticed that once again code did not show up in the post. The Google code should go into the footer.php file directly above the /body tag (with the added of course).

    I’m really sorry.

  33. Jeremy says:

Ok so i was wondering how i can put my own image for the background, which is the red image.

  34. Mina says:

To change the red image go into style.css and look for this line:

    body { margin: 0; font-size: 76.5%; text-align: center; vertical-align: top; background: #993300 url(images/body-bg.gif) repeat; color: #000; }

then change body-bg.gif to whatever image you want.

  35. Jeremy says:

is that part of the url after the last (/)?

  36. Mina says:

I’m not sure I understand your question. ??

  37. Alyssa says:

    Hi Mina,

May I know if it is possible to change the font type and font size for the words on top left corner at the header section?

  38. Mina says:

    Hi Alyssa,

Do you mean the blog title and the description? That is absolutely possible. Go into style.css and find these lines:

    #header h1 { padding: 0; margin: 20px 0 0 30px; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, Sans-serif; font-size: 3.5em; line-height: 38px; text-align: left; }

    #header .description { margin: 0 0 0 60px; padding: 0; font-size: 1.5em; font-weight: normal; font-family: Georgia; color: #ddd7c0; text-align: left; text-transform: lowercase; }

The first one is for the blog title and the second one is for the description. Within those lines of code you’ll see both font-family and font-size settings, just change those to whatever you’d like them to be.

  39. Neal says:

Hey! I love your Autumn theme. Mainly because it gave me a good place to start tinkering with, but also because of some of its features. However, I have a couple of things I can’t seem to find how to change.

Firstly I’d like to change the orange band which outlines everything. I am tinkering with making the body-bg color a mottled green and I’d like to get the banding darker. Also, how can I get regular links in the menu bar. I tried a couple of old tricks on the menu.php file but can’t seem to get a regular link squeezed in there. It just keeps showing pages. Any ideas?

    Thanks a million.

  40. Carolyn says:

    Hi Mina,

I absolutely love this autumn theme. This is my first experience with blogging and I know little about website manipulation or writing code.

I wanted to delete the introduction section and the text there states that
“This section is to display just about any kind of information you’d like. To remove this section simply delete any references to ‘intro.php’ in the Main Index Template.”

I removed this file but now I see a warning “Warning: include(intro.php) [function.include]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/t/r/al/wp-content/themes/autumn-almanac.1.1/autumn-almanac/index.php on line 7”

How have located this code from the page source but I do not know how to delete it. Please tell me what I need to do.

    Thank you,

  41. Mina says:

    Welcome to WordPress. ??

You say you found it in the page source and that sounds as if you did the right click – view source (or similar) thing. You can’t delete from there, you need to go into Admin >> Appearance >> Editor >> index.php and delete it from there.

    Hope that helps.

  42. Sika says:

Hi Mina, I love your template–the colors are my favorites. I’m using it with my own banner, and I’ve got it doing everything I want, except threading comments.

I’m still using 2.6.5 and don’t have a good enough internet connection to fuss around with downloading and uploading 2.7. I’ve uploaded Brian’s threaded comments, and it recognizes that one comment belongs to another (like, it will say, responding to #1303 or whatever). But, there’s no change in how the comments look–so the reply comment isn’t directly under the comment it’s replying to, and it isn’t tabbed in.

Everything I’ve read says that I probably need to fiddle with style.css, but I don’t know what needs to be there. Do you?

  43. David says:

I really am enjoying working with your theme, great job. I’ll send you a link to show how I have used it once the site goes live.

A quick question on using gravatars, I just don’t see where to add them to the user??

  44. henk says:

Hi Mina, I am having the same problem as Monica in october when combining your great theme Autumn Almanac with the Dutch translation (vs 271).

is only showing up when I click a category in my menu. It shows then above all the excerpts. When I next click the header/title of the story to show it in full, the bugs text disappears. I have no problem when combining default english with your them and also not when combining Dutch with the default WP theme.
I hope you can help me; thanks n advance.

  45. henk says:

I tried the combination Theme Wasteland, Dutch, 2.7.1. and the same happens.

  46. henk says:

Great, thanks, problem solved (allthough I did n’t see he difference between the old and the new file. (Note: new site is not visible online because of htaccess file settings).
Now I only have to change this […] into a real “More” link. I find that mote logical.

    Thanks again, Henk

  47. Linda Taylor says:

I am just starting with WordPress. It’s awesome and you have done some great templates. Thank you!

I am well-versed in xhtml & css. I am a novice at php, but I am fascinated in learning more.

My problem: When I am editing the sidebars, I notice that the content in the code I am seeing is not what is showing up on the screen.

For instance: the php wp_list_pages(‘depth=3&title_li=Pages’); isn’t showing up at all in either the left or right sidebar code, yet the pages are being listed in the right sidebar. I want to edit the depth the pages are listed, but I can’t do it because I don’t know where to go.

That’s just one of my questions – but the most important one right now.

    Thanks in advance!

  48. Linda Taylor says:

So then to bypass this issue – do you do all your edits first, such as edit the pages and subpages, then add the widget/s you want?

    Thanks, Mina.

  49. Linda Taylor says:

I should explain better. Thanks for your patience. The pages and subpages are showing up in the sidebar. I want that. It is that I now only want the main pages to show up under the Pages in the sidebar because there are too many sub pages and I notice that those links are growing and growing down the sidebar.

I would love to edit the page level back to just the main pages.

I would also love to be able to edit the heading titles in the sidebar, such as the Pages, to something else.

So, are you saying that once widgets are added to the sidebar, I can’t do these things?

    Thanks again, Mina!

  50. Linda Taylor says:

Yes! Amazing help, and thank you.

  51. Linda Taylor says:

Also, if you can’t seem to edit the hiding of sub pages through the php, I just found out that if you go into Appearance, then Widgets, then Pages, on the far right side is the option to hide certain pages by their ID. A pages ID can be accessed by clicking the Edit link for the page. The ID shows up in the address bar. Nice!

  52. Linda Taylor says:

Your so right. After I entered all the IDs, I’m thinkin’ that this is a pain. Can I do this without wrecking anything: Take the code from the original right side of your template, put it back in there and then change that line of code, as you showed me above, to depth=1?

Do you get what I’m asking? =-)

Here’s hoping because that would be easier.
